4 Ways To Prepare Your Pet For New Year's Eve
New Year’s Eve can be an exciting day for us humans, but sometimes it can be stressful for our pets. In this article, we’ll discuss four ways to help prepare your dog or cat for all of the loud noises that come with New Year’s celebrations.
New Year’s Eve is just around the corner. While you’re busy preparing a pot of lucky black-eyed peas, and planning for get-togethers with family and friends, it’s important to prepare for your pet’s New Year’s too. When the fireworks sound off as you celebrate with your friends and family, the loud noises can make your pet feel uncomfortable, or downright terrified. If your pet experiences situational stress during the holidays, such as fireworks on the 4th of July, it’s better to start making plans now to make sure you have a calm night with your fur friends. Here are a few ways to help your dog keep their cool and have a happy New Year’s.
1. Try To Wear Your Pet Out With Exercise
Give your dog or cat a workout during the day of New Year’s Eve! Being anxious and fearful takes energy, so lots of exercises will hopefully tire them out enough so that they will just rest for the remainder of the night. For instance, try going on a long walk or playing fetch with your dog in the park. And for cats, bring out a feather toy wand to keep not only their body active but their brain stimulated too! There is no better way to start your New Year’s Resolution of being more active than to get your pet involved!
2. Pet Releaf’s CBD Hemp Oil
As fireworks and loud noises are filling the neighborhood on New Year’s Day, Pet Releaf CBD Hemp Oil For Dogs and Cats can be the perfect way to give your pet’s holiday stress a break. With calming and relaxing properties, it’s a great option to have on hand when your pet starts showing signs of stress. Pet Releaf has a variety of CBD pet products to tailor to your pet’s specific needs! We recommend trying out our CBD hemp oil a few days before New Year’s Eve just to make sure it works for your pet. On New Year’s Eve, try administering your pet’s recommended usage amount 30 minutes to 1 hour before the festivities begin.
Does your dog love treats? Try using our Pet Releaf Edibites for dogs for extra coverage for your pup throughout the night! While Edibites aren’t treats, but CBD and herbal soft chews, your dog will think they are delicious. We’d recommend our Calming Chews for Dogs that include beneficial ingredients like the herbs chamomile and baobab that may help promote relaxation or our Stress Releaf Hemp Oil for extra support. You could even use our Edibites as rewards if they’re doing well with the New Year’s hullabaloo. This way they receive some additional support, but can also be reminded that they are doing a great job in the chaos!
3. Keep Your Dog Busy
Distract your dog with a long-lasting chew or food puzzle while the fireworks are sounding off! This will keep them occupied and focused on something that isn’t the noise outside. It’s also ideal to create a safe space for them to hide out during the commotion. This could include their favorite pet bed or blanket tucked away in your bedroom away from the noises. The addition of a treat or puzzle will hopefully keep them busy enough to ignore the ruckus.
4. Background Noise
To stifle the firework noise outside, try turning on a TV show or peaceful instrumental music in your pet’s favorite room. This will help block out some of the louder noises outside so your pet can relax. Studies have shown classical music to be relaxing to dogs, so consider adding some Bach or Claude De Busy to your New Year’s Playlist.
