Holiday Gathering Safety Tips For Pets

Oct 18, 2023

Holiday gatherings are a much-anticipated time of year for families all over. But for pets, these gatherings can be stressful and overwhelming. From guests coming in and out of the house to the presence of pet-toxic snacks and alcohol, there are many safety hazards and stressors to be aware of. Luckily, there are precautions you can take before the hosting company to ensure your pets stay safe and happy.

If you’re hosting a party this year and your pet struggles with situational stress, we’ve got some tips and tricks including CBD for pets to make for a more calming experience!

1. Create a Cozy Spot

If your pet is skittish around new people or just isn’t a fan of loud noises, it may be best to create a comfortable area just for them! Creating a quiet, cozy spot for them to rest away from people just may help your pet feel safer in their own home. We’d recommend their favorite dog bed along with some blankets and their favorite toys. Plus, playing some relaxing background music could help distract your pet from the commotion in the living room.

Dog crate training can also be super beneficial for helping your pet escape from the loud noise. Plus, you’ll know they are safe from getting into any unsafe foods or alcohol. If your dog is already crate trained, they should view their kennel as a safe and comfortable space already!

2. Use Pet Releaf CBD Hemp Oil

If your pet isn’t the biggest fan of having company over, administering Pet Releaf CBD supplements for dogs may be useful! As CBD may help promote calmness and relaxation in pets, administering it before a big event could potentially help your dog or cat feel more comfortable around your guests. Even if your pet has issues relaxing around multiple people in the home, giving our CBD pet products may also help your pet stay calm during game time.

Whether you’re planning on trying out our Pet Releaf Edibites Calming Chews For Dogs or upgrading to one of our higher potency CBD Hemp Oils, we have recommended usage amounts on each of our products based on your dog’s weight. We also suggest administering your pet’s recommended usage amount about an hour or so before kickoff, so it has time to take effect. 3. Puppy-proof

While your focus may be more on the food and your guests and not as much on your pets once the party begins, your pets could, unfortunately, get destructive while you’re not watching. You may want to puppy-proof the house so they can’t get into any funny business when you may not be paying attention. AKC.org provides an extensive puppy-proofing list to help you get started! One of the major items on the list includes securing trash bins to help prevent your pets from eating anything that could be potentially harmful to their health.

4. Keep Guests on the Same Page

Speaking of potentially harmful foods, it’s also important to make sure your company is all on the same page when it comes to feeding your pets. We recommend making a disclaimer to your guests about not feeding your pets human food to avoid any poisonous foods entering your pet’s body. As many holiday snacks are fatty and salty, it’s extra important to make sure no human food are shared, and that no alcohol spills.

5. Provide Toys & Distractions

To deter your pet from begging for honey ham and mashed potatoes, engage your pet in a stimulating activity of their own. We have 4 Kong Recipes Featuring Pet Releaf Hemp Oil to help keep your dog calm as well as occupied while your guests are over!

6. Exercise Earlier

If your pet is the opposite of stressed when they’re around guests and gets way too excited with new people around, you may want to consider getting your pet’s daily exercise out of the way before company comes over. This way you can tire out your dog before any company arrives at your door!
