Raw Dog Food Breakfast Bowl Recipe
Welcome to Dr. Colleen’s Kitchen
Feeding Your Dog Raw Food
Every morning, our Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Colleen Smith prepares her dogs their favorite breakfast, which includes raw food and Pet Releaf CBD supplements, to ensure they’re getting everything they need to feel better and live longer lives. Scout and Hank aren’t the biggest fans of taking their supplements on an empty stomach, but this delicious dog food recipe is a sneaky way to provide a meal that is jam-packed with supplements. Follow along in Dr. Colleen Smith’s Kitchen to provide an equally nutritious meal to your pup.
Consult Your Vet About Feeding Raw
We always recommend consulting with your veterinarian when it comes to switching your dog’s diet around, so they can be aware of any changes and can provide any advice as needed. When you’re new to the raw food world, it can be difficult to figure out how to get started.
“Can I Feed My Dog A Raw Hamburger?”
Our friends over at Smallbatch Pets provide an excellent step-by-step guide on how you can slowly transition your pup from a kibble diet to a raw food diet. We don’t recommend just giving your dog just any raw ground beef you buy at the grocery, but from a reputable raw food dog company. Incorporating a raw diet for your pet has the potential of improving their skin and dental health as well as help them produce smaller stools. A lot of raw diets incorporate organ and muscle meats, yogurt, raw eggs, and even dog-friendly fruits and vegetables to provide them with a well-balanced meal!
When you begin transitioning your pet to a raw-fed diet, try starting out with a raw meat patty, such as these Chickenbatch sliders. Smallbatch Pets includes recommended measurements based on your pup’s weight, so you know exactly how much you should be feeding to your pet at a time. All you have to do is take it out of the freezer to let it thaw completely. The thawing process is extremely important as you don’t want to give your pup a frozen patty. Then, you just mash it up with a fork before feeding it to your dog to make it more manageable for your pup to eat.
To provide your pup with a great source of probiotics and calcium, try adding a plain, non-fat yogurt to your pup’s meal. It’s important to make sure that you’re not buying any yogurt with flavor or sugar additives—the plainer, the better!
Add Supplements to Your Dog’s Diet
We know that incorporating supplements into your pet’s daily lifestyle can oftentimes be difficult, especially if you’re administering CBD to a picky pet. Our #1 recommendation is always incorporating CBD to your pup’s daily regimen for overall wellness, calming your pet’s stress levels, supporting joint health and more! For pets that aren’t the biggest fans of taking their CBD on an empty stomach with our standard CBD Hemp Oils, our Liposome Hemp Oils are a great alternative as they can be administered during mealtime. We have recommended usage amounts based on your dog’s weight on every box, bottle, and on our website!
Although CBD can benefit so many areas of your pet’s body, Dr. Smith also recommends adding additional supplements to your pup’s breakfast bowl! Bone broth for dogs is a great supplement for your dog as it can be very beneficial for your pup’s digestive system as well as supporting the immune system. And if you’re looking for more ways to promote a healthy digestive system, MCT oil, also known as “Medium Chain Triglycerides” in coconut oil, can also be useful there. If your pup uses our CBD for joint health, but needs extra support for their ligaments and joint discomfort, Ligaplex, a joint support supplement, comes in a capsule form that you can easily hide in your pet’s meal. Lastly, if you’re searching for some preventative health with protection against fleas and ticks, Now Brewer’s Yeast is another awesome additive!

If your pup doesn’t mind taking their daily supplements in their food like Scout and Hank, adding these supplements to their breakfast should be fairly simple. It’s also important to note if you have never fed your dog a raw-food diet before, make sure to be cautious as you should start out slow. Please be sure to follow the raw transition guidelines from Smallbatch Pets to learn how to start before trying this recipe.
We know not all pups like their supplements in their food, so if you’re pup enjoys taking them on an empty stomach, we recommend our standard Hemp Oils for Pets!
