Fall Grooming Guide For Dogs of All Coat Types
Summer is full of travel, dips in the pool, swims in the lake, and rolling in the grass. So when the fall season rolls around, it’s important to both clean off summer toxins and prepare your dog for colder weather. No matter your dog’s coat type, they should be regularly groomed. The beginning of a new season is a great time to reset, whether that is by contacting a professional groomer or grooming your dog yourself.
And remember: as many dogs aren’t the biggest fans of being groomed, make sure to keep CBD for dogs in your supplement cabinet to help promote calmness during these stressful moments.
Find out four grooming tips you can utilize to get your dog ready for Fall.
Repair Summer-Damaged Skin & Fur
Too much time in the sun can damage our skin and hair, and the same goes for dogs! That’s why it’s important to do a deep clean at summer’s end to remove chlorine, and dirt, and generally get your dog fresh for the new season.
Choose a plant-based dog shampoo created for your dog’s coat or skin type. Rinse, and condition deeply with a good canine conditioner.
Remember that all dogs have different bathing needs! If you bathe your dog too frequently, it can remove essential oils, causing itchy skin or dryness. Some dogs can be hand-stripped while others need a bath every few weeks. Consult your groomer or breeder if you have questions about your dog’s coat type.
Cutting Your Dog’s Fur
Did you know that your dog’s coat acts as insulation? A dog’s coat can protect them from the cold weather in the winter and keep them from overheating in the summer. Dog fur has several layers that are necessary to keep them comfortable on cooler days. Some owners who may give their dog a shorter cut in summer may choose to start growing their dog’s coat out longer in the fall.
That said, some coat types need to be regularly brushed and trimmed so they don’t become matted, even in the fall and winter. If you don’t feel comfortable cutting your dog’s fur yourself, there is always the option of consulting with a professional groomer to ensure your dog is getting an even trim. Groomers can also help you figure out the best cut for your pet companion.

Paw Check & Nail Trimming
After a hot summer full of simmering sidewalks and adventurous hikes, your dog’s paws may need some TLC. Check them for any debris, irritated spots, or burns. Once they are clean, apply some Skin & Paw Releaf ointment to help the paw pads heal.
Along with paw health, it’s very important to keep up with your dog’s nail length. The last thing you want to see is your dog feeling uncomfortable with nails that are way too long. Many dogs’ nails are black, which makes it difficult to see where the quick is from the top of the nail. Again, you may want to consult your groomer or veterinarian for regular nail clippings.
Making Grooming Stress-Free
Many areas of dog grooming make our pet companions nervous, which is why you may want to consider adding CBD to your dog’s grooming regimen. CBD can promote calmness and relaxation during stressful situations, so many pet parents use it before grooming to help their pets feel at ease.
On all our Pet Releaf packaging, we offer recommended usage amounts based on your pet’s weight. Our most popular calming CBD products would be our Hemp Oils and our Calming Chews for Dogs. Whether you think your dog would prefer taking an oil or a bite-sized chew, we’ve got options for both.
We recommend administering our Hemp Oil about an hour before a stressful event, such as grooming. This way it has enough time to kick in before the grooming session. If you think your dog needs extra support, you can also administer the Edibites during the session as well to help further calm them down. Our Calming Edibites incorporate additional functional ingredients, such as chamomile and baobab which can also promote a calming effect.
