Advice From Pet Releaf's Oldest Pups

These wise pups have been around the block, and many of them still love a good walk around it! We're celebrating the oldest members of our Pet Releaf family with their stories, quirks, and advice for the younger generation of pups.
Johnny Duke
Age: 17
Birthday: March 23, 2008
Breed: Chihuahua and Dachshund Mix
Why they use Pet Releaf: Calming support for the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve, and mobile support for just plain walking. He is no longer able to jump up on furniture.
Favorite trait or story: He thinks he needs to get a treat every time I go into the kitchen and whenever I leave, and whenever I come back home and before he goes to bed, and when he wakes up in the morning. And he is right!
Advice for younger pups: Don’t bark too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Toby
Age: 17
Birthday: April 12, 2008
Breed: Shih Tzu
Why they use Pet Releaf: For joint discomfort and general calmness.
Favorite trait or story: On a sunny Florida morning, 14-year-old Toby — blind, deaf, and full of grit — accidentally slipped off a docked boat and vanished beneath it. Panic swept the marina, but moments later, he calmly resurfaced, paddling with steady determination. Guided by instinct, he swam to another boat, followed its edge, and reached a man on the dock who helped lift him to safety. Toby’s quiet strength reminded everyone what resilience looks like, powered in part by Pet Releaf.
Advice for younger pups: In my 17 dog years (119 people years), I’ve seen a lot from the comfort of a cuddler and the passenger seat of a road trip. I’ve known the ache of old bones, the thrill of a good treat puzzle, and yes, even the splash of falling off a boat in Florida (no regrets—10/10 would swim again).
So, what would I tell the next generation? Nap without guilt. Play like it’s your last zoomie. Love your humans fiercely. Growing older isn’t about slowing down — it’s about showing up in new ways. Sniff everything. Trust your nose, even when your eyes and ears fade. And if you have a little sister like Maisy, let her teach you how to be young again.
Every day is a gift. Every treat, a treasure. Don’t count the years — count the memories.
More to share: Toby has faced more than most: blind from cataracts, nearly deaf, and living with a chronic respiratory condition. Yet, he begins each day with quiet courage. His tail still wags, his paws still walk, and his spirit remains unshaken. He reminds us to live in the “now,” where every slow stroll, soft breath, and biscuit is a quiet celebration. Even with achy legs and a wheezy chest, he greets the day with silent nobility (and the occasional dramatic sigh if lunch is late). His tongue often peeks out — a sweet, quirky symbol of the way he meets the world. He’s our velcro dog, our snuggle sage, and our softest inspiration.
Lucie
Age: 16.5
Birthday: January 11, 2009
Breed: Dachshund
Why they use Pet Releaf: For mobility and to support appetite.
Favorite trait or story: Lucie, as with most Doxies, loves to burrow, and sometimes it's hard to find her as she is only 7 pounds. I once stripped the bed without realizing she was under the sheets. She is also fierce and not afraid to put the big dogs in their place.
Advice for younger pups: Let your person brush your teeth! Teeth are important and they only do it because they love you! It's okay to be left at home alone, they will always come back and bring you a doggy bag.
Loretta Lynn
Age: 15.5
Birthday: September 3, 2009

Molly
Age: 15
Birthday: March 27, 2010
Breed: Border Collie / Greyhound Mix
Why they use Pet Releaf: Mobility and calming support
Favorite trait or story: She loves to herd balls and play soccer in bushes. Our last home had a grove of Bamboo out back and she created her own play maze for her balls.
Advice for younger pups: Chase the balls, bark at the big brown UPS truck, and live like there's no tomorrow.
Stinky
Age: 14.5
Birthday: September 1, 2010
Breed: Dachshund
Why they use Pet Releaf: All around care and joy (he prefers Digestive Edibites due to his sensitive stomach)
Favorite trait or story: Stinky is obsessed with his Edibites. It is what he gets before he goes to bed. He will begin begging (staring, whining, stomping, and barking) for the chew hours before bedtime. Because he is old, I am often worried when he begins begging that it may be a sign of cognitive decline because he is so upset over seemingly nothing. But it’s not nothing! Without fail, when he gets his Edibite, he goes straight to sleep, comfortable and satisfied. I even tried cheating and giving him the chew early to trick him into going to bed. That doesn’t work. He demands a second at my bedtime!!!
Advice for younger pups: Stay active, stay loyal, and if you want a treat, let it be known!!
More to share: Stinky is a sweet old man who doesn’t hear, see, or get around too well but somehow still knows when the treat bag opens!
