May the 4th be with you! Star Wars Day is just around the corner, and if you’re a fan of both Star Wars and dogs, then you’re in luck. In honor of the holiday, we’re highlighting some dog breeds that look like Star Wars characters, and also sharing some fun ways to celebrate May 4th with your furry friend.
1. Brussels Griffon – Ewok
Brussels Griffons are known for their small size, shaggy coat, long beard, and distinctive facial features. Combined with their endearing personalities, these features make them a popular breed for many dog lovers. Their resemblance to Ewoks from the Star Wars franchise has also been noted and enjoyed by many fans.
The Brussels Griffon’s facial features, including their large, expressive eyes and prominent brow ridge, are similar to those of the Ewok. Additionally, their lengthy tan coat and rounded ears give them an overall look that is reminiscent of the beloved Star Wars characters.
2. Pug – Chewbacca
The Pug is a small breed of dog that is known for its distinctive facial features, including their wrinkled forehead and flat, broad nose. Many have commented on the Pug’s resemblance to the famous Star Wars character Chewbacca, especially during Halloween.
Chewbacca is a Wookiee, a tall, hairy biped from the planet Kashyyyk. He has a broad nose, prominent brow ridge, and long, shaggy fur that covers most of his body. Pugs share many of these same physical characteristics, which makes them a natural choice for anyone looking to dress up their pet in a Chewbacca costume.
3. Bulldog – Jabba the Hutt
Bulldogs are a sturdy and muscular breed of dog that have a distinctive appearance. The medium-sized dogs are known for their stocky build, wrinkled face, and protruding lower jaw, which are some of the same features that are characteristic of Jabba the Hutt from the Star Wars franchise.
Jabba the Hutt is a large, slug-like creature with a bulbous head, wrinkled skin, and a protruding lower jaw. He is often depicted as powerful and ruthless, and someone who is not to be trifled with. Bulldogs share many of these same physical features and personality traits.
4. French Bulldog – Darth Vader
French Bulldogs, or Frenchies for short, are America’s most popular dog breed. They are known for their bat-like ears, muscular build, and wrinkled faces, which combined with one of the color combinations – black coat and white markings – gives them a striking resemblance to the iconic Star Wars character, Darth Vader.
Darth Vader is a Sith Lord who wears a distinctive black suit and helmet. The helmet has a rounded shape and prominent, bat-like ears that are similar in appearance to the ears of a French Bulldog. Additionally, Frenchies have a muscular build and broad chest, which is similar to Vader’s imposing and powerful physique.
5. Basenji – Yoda
The Basenji breed of dog has some physical characteristics that may give them a resemblance to Yoda from the Star Wars franchise. Some of these characteristics include their ears, wrinkles, and facial shape. Plus, they have a wise, all-knowing look.
Basenjis have erect ears that are positioned high on their head. Similarly, Yoda has pointed ears that are also positioned high on his head. This breed also has wrinkles on their forehead, which can give them a furrowed brow, much like Yoda. Lastly, Basenjis have a distinctive facial shape that can sometimes appear to be reminiscent of Yoda’s wrinkled, wide-set eyes and pointy nose.
