It’s imperative to always clean up after you and your pets during your stay at the beach. Make sure to do your due diligence in researching each beach location to see where your dog is allowed to roam as well as follow their specific rules. Although each location offers different rules, many dogs are required to be fully vaccinated, licensed, and on a leash.
Huntington Dog Beach
Check out the Dog Beach USA location at Huntington Beach, California! It’s open every day, year-round from 5am to 10pm. It’s very important that when you enter and exit the beach, your dog must be leashed. Once you reach the beach sand, your dog can roam off leash. If you’re new to off leash dog parks, you may want to keep a close eye on your dog and maybe even keep them leashed the first time to see how they react to the environment.
Fort De Soto Park Beach
Join the other pet parents at the Paw Playground located inside Fort De Soto Park in Tierra Verde, Florida. This park is very accommodating to small dogs as well as large dogs! Fort De Soto offers no-leash areas for small and large dogs, so if you don’t feel comfortable with your Chihuahua roughhousing with a Saint Bernard, then you may want to consider this location! Plus, it’s all fenced in, so you don’t have to worry about your dog escaping the park. They offer drinking water for extremely hot days as well as a hose to clean off your pup.
Caswell Beach
Caswell Beach is just one of the North Carolina Brunswick Island beaches that are dog-friendly! Dogs that are leashed are allowed at the beach all year round. Unleashed dogs are allowed at the beach from dawn until 9:00AM everyday if they are under the control of their pet parent. Plus, Caswell Beach is usually not very busy compared to other beaches, so you and your pet can have a relaxing time at the shore.
Chesapeake Bay KOA
Reserve a campground spot at Chesapeake Bay KOA and enjoy the Sandy Paws Dog Beach located in Cape Charles, Virginia. They have a designated area for your dog to run around off leash on their private beach. As long as you stay near your dog’s side, they’re able to run, play, and swim around for a day full of fun!
Dewey Beach
Dewey Beach is one of the most dog-friendly beaches in the state of Delaware! The only catch is that you’ll have to purchase a Dewey Beach license for your dog. Prices range from $35 for a lifetime license, $10 for a 8-day license, and $5 for a 3-day license. So if you’re just visiting for the weekend or you live in the area, you can purchase a license that fits you and your dog’s lifestyle!
Manhattan Beach Park
Looking to escape the big city? Bring your pup to a beach day at Manhattan Beach Park in Brooklyn, New York. Make sure your dog is always leashed, except in dog runs and off leash areas that are designated in the park. Not sure what a dog run is? Dog runs offer a large, fenced-in area for dogs to run around and play in!
8th Avenue Dog Beach
Plan a day with your pup at 8th Avenue Dog Beach in Asbury Park, New Jersey! All well-behaved and trained dogs are allowed to roam around off leash from May 16th to September 14th from 6pm to 8:30am. Plus, you can hang out with your pup at Wonder Bar for Yappy Hour on Ocean Avenue. Dogs can run around and cool off in the pool while you socialize with friends and drink.
Cannon Beach
Cannon Beach in Oregon is the place to be if you have a pup! If your dog is trained well, they can be off leash and under your voice control, as long as they don’t disturb other humans, dogs, and wildlife. With fireworks season coming up, Cannon Beach offers a fireworks-free 4th of July weekend! If your dog experiences stress around fireworks, this is the perfect celebration to bring your dog to.
Block Island
Block Island in Rhode Island offers up to seventeen miles of shoreline for your dog to roam—on a leash, of course! Are you and your pup up for some hiking? Block Island also has 25 miles of trails for you and your pup to explore. After a day of exercise, make sure to grab some lunch at one of the dog-friendly restaurants in the area, like Mutt Hut!
Union Reservoir
Not all dog beaches have to be at the ocean—reservoirs count too! Check out Union Reservoir located in Longmont, Colorado for your vacation. Although there are swim beaches for humans, there is also a designated area where dogs can enjoy the beach too! On the south side of the reservoir, dogs can run around off leash and swim in the water with their doggy friends.
