So when we go to the grocery store we make sure to grab snacks that aren’t just good for us, but also for our furry companions, and we’re not talking about the pet aisle. From fresh produce to some of your favorite snack-time foods, there are plenty of options that are already on your weekly shopping list that are also safe for your dogs or cats!

This is not medical advice. Before pursuing feeding your dog a new food or supplement, it’s advised to consult with your veterinarian.

1. Carrots

Carrots are a wonderful way for dogs to receive beneficial fibers and vitamins! They are a great source of Vitamin A, potassium, and fiber. Carrots are even said to be a great addition to your pet’s dental health. It’s the perfect option for rewarding your dog’s good behavior with a low-calorie snack instead of a high-calorie treat!

With carrots being low in fat, it’s a great option for dogs who are looking to maintain a healthier weight. We recommend feeding carrots raw or cooked and chopping them into bite-sized chunks before providing them to your dog so it can be easily digested and prevent choking.

2. Eggs

Eggs are a great option for when your dog’s digestive tract is upset. They are an excellent source of protein, essential amino acids, and fatty acids. Cats could also benefit from cooked eggs in moderation as they are a great protein supplement. It’s ideal to make sure that these eggs are fully cooked before feeding to your pet as raw egg whites can result in a biotin deficiency!

3. Blueberries

Blueberries are a great source of fiber, phytochemicals, and Vitamin C. It is even said that adding antioxidants like the ones in blueberries to your dog’s diet could help with brain function in aging pets. Frozen or fresh blueberries are both safe options for your dog, but always make sure to wash them off before feeding! It is also important to monitor smaller dogs eating blueberries as it could be a choking hazard.

4. Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is an absolute lifesaver when you’re searching for a snack to keep your pup busy! It’s the perfect long-lasting treat and full of protein, healthy fats, niacin, Vitamin B, and Vitamin E. It is recommended to go with an unsalted version though since too much salt is never good for anyone, even dogs! Plus, it’s important to make sure that there are no sugar substitutes like Xylitol, which is not safe for dog consumption.

5. Green Beans

Green beans are a great source of Vitamin B6, Vitamin K, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, protein, iron, calcium, and also fiber for your dog’s overall health! They are low in calories like carrots, so it definitely can help aid in maintaining a healthy weight for your dog or cat. It is important to note that only plain green beans will do the trick! Green beans coated with salt, seasonings, and oils would not be as healthy or safe for your pet to consume.

Plant-Based Supplements

Veggies, fruits, and plants are good for us humans and our pets. When choosing supplements for your pet, look for products that are plant-based and limited ingredient, such as our Digestive Releaf Edibites, Sentesa Capsules, or Hemp Oils.
