One of the best parts of the holidays is having people over for parties, dinners, and other celebratory gatherings. Well, at least, it’s one of the best parts of the holiday season for the humans of the house. The pets, however, might find some of these events overwhelming.

As much as Fido and Fluffy might enjoy having one or two of their favorite people over, having a large group of people can be enough to overwhelm even the friendliest four-legged friends. Plus, most people don’t appreciate when the dog barks at guests or it’s obvious that the cat doesn’t like strangers.

To help make sure everyone’s holiday season is jolly and bright, it’s a good idea to get the help of pet CBD to make sure your pets can also relax. With the right CBD, you can keep your pet happy, calm, and sociable all night long while you and your loved ones celebrate the season.

At Pet Releaf, we know how important it is for the whole family to rest and recharge. This is why we’ve made this helpful guide to using pet CBD before, during, and after holiday gatherings.

What CBD Should I Use On My Pet?

CBD is a great way to help your pet be happiest and healthiest, but you shouldn’t let them eat human dosages of it! Instead, it’s important to find a high-quality form of CBD that will help with your concerns and is made just for them.

If you’re constantly worried about concerns like how your dog gets overly excited when guests come over, or how to stop your dog from jumping on people, using CBD on your pet could be a powerful tool for you.

A few different ways to use CBD for your pet include:

  1. Chews. There are lots of tasty CBD chews available that your pet won’t be able to get enough of. Whether you use it as a reward for them doing a trick, or simply as a fun way to get some CBD into their system, your pet will get all of the benefits of CBD with the fun of their favorite flavors.
  2. Hemp Oil. Using an oil supplement can deliver a powerful dose of CBD to your pet. Simply use the dropper to get the supplement into your pet’s mouth and watch them start to chill out.
  3. Topicals. If your pet is irritated by bug bites, salty paws after a walk in the snow, or other skin concerns, a topical CBD product can help reduce that irritation so they can get back to being their normal selves.
  4. Capsules. When all else fails, capsules may be able to get your pet the dosage of CBD they need! These capsules can be given to your pet on their own or served in the same pill pockets you may use for other capsules.

Whatever concerns you want to address with CBD for your pet, knowing your options for administering it can help ensure that giving them CBD doesn’t stress them – or you – out before it chills them out.

How Much CBD Should I Give My Pet?

A good general guideline when it comes to figuring out the right dosage for your pet is 1-2mg for every 10lbs of body weight for both cats and dogs. However, if you want to get a more detailed overview of what dosage will be best for your pet, you can see our recommendations for cats here and dogs here.

If you’re still not totally sure, start with a small dose and slowly work your way up until it’s having the effect you want. It’s a good idea to have your pet try CBD for the first time on a day that is relatively laid-back, so there aren’t outside factors changing its impact. This way, you can observe exactly how they react while the CBD kicks in.

When Should I Give My Pet CBD Before An Event?

While the time it takes CBD to kick in may vary based on your pet’s breed, size, and metabolism, it is beneficial to start administrating early, and giving your pet CBD the morning of your gathering. This will give the CBD plenty of time to kick in and allow you to give more as needed. If you expect guests to be over for more than 4 hours, it may be a good idea to give your pet a second dose early enough that it will kick in before the first dose has a chance to wear off, usually after about 4-6 hours.

How Can I Give My Pet CBD During An Event?

Unless you’d like to interrupt your hosting duties to chase your pet into another room and force them to take more CBD, it’s a good idea to make sure you have a form of CBD that your pet will enjoy before using it during an event. Luckily, there are lots of pet CBD options that your four-legged friends can enjoy!

Chews are always a great option. If your dog or cat isn’t into the flavors that you see available, you can even add CBD oil to one of their favorite snacks and administer it that way! For example, dogs may enjoy CBD oil mixed with some peanut butter, and cats may enjoy CBD oil mixed with tuna.

Will My Pet Enjoy CBD?

Yes! While one perk of using CBD on your pet leading up to an event is that they will be less chaotic and distracting for guests, it helps your pet, too. Often, changes in routine can be overwhelming for your pet, who has likely gotten used to your usual daily rhythm. When that normal pattern is thrown off, they may feel scared or overwhelmed! With CBD, you can help your pet chill out and enjoy events like Thanksgiving dinner and holiday parties instead of being nervous about them.
